The move by Republicans, most of whom do not sit on one of three relevant committees, trying to access the classified room led to the witness' testimony being halted. It was unclear if and when it would resume.

A dramatic scene unfolded Wednesday when dozens of House Republicans halted the testimony of an administration official who was testifying behind closed doors as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump after trying to access a secure room in a bid for greater transparency.

The move by Republicans, most of whom do not sit on one of those three committees, trying to access the secure room led to a partisan standoff. Democrats chalked it up to a political stunt while Republicans indicated they were at their whit's end with witnesses answering questions out of the public sphere.

Rep. Mike Quigley said Republicans"pushed their way in" to the room, some of whom then allegedly took photos or filmed. Rep. Jim Jordan , the ranking member on Oversight, acknowledged that some of his GOP colleagues walked into the room with cell phones and that they were later collected by other Republicans familiar with the room's rules.
