Fed up residents have reignited calls for the Allan government to relocate the North Richmond safe injecting room after plans for a Melbourne CBD facility were torn up.

The Allan government's decision to dump plans for a safe injecting room in the Melbourne CBD has reignited calls from fed up residents to relocate an existing facility located next to a primary school.said a safe injecting room in the city centre could not proceed because the government was unable to find a suitable site in the area.

Residents, pictured early last year, have renewed calls for the North Richmond safe injecting room to be moved. Picture: NCA NewsWire / Andrew Henshaw The North Richmond facility started off as a trial in 2018 before being made permanent by the then Andrews government early last year after it was claimed it had saved 63 lives and"successfully" managed almost 6,000 overdoses.

"It's 30 metres from a primary school and anybody who thinks that's acceptable is beyond belief. Our children should not be exposed to this kind of situation," she added.
