Cibus Capital will make a big push into regenerative farming and will use the latest robotics to expand one of the country’s biggest seedling growers.

Already a subscriber?Fresh from raising almost $1 billion for its agricultural funds – including a large commitment from Rest Super – sustainable food investor Cibus Capital is looking to acquire a portfolio of farms where it can leverage off the growing demand for carbon offsets.

Cibus has plenty of capital to pursue such a strategy. In March, it closed its Cibus Fund II with $US510 million of commitments. A further $US135 million was secured for its second venture fund which invests in agrifood tech companies. Cibus II invests in companies that “produce, process or distribute healthy foods and provides capital to accelerate growth”.of Toowoomba-based Withcott Seedlings, one of the country’s largest producers of vegetable and tree seedlings.

Mr Petrie, who is also chairman of Withcott Seedlings, said the company had acquired an 80-hectare vacant farm to the north of its existing operations as part of plans to expand the business.Cibus will draw on the expertise from its operating partner network, to drive the expansion of Withcott.
