'I was helping a friend cut down a tree in his garden'

A restaurant owner has said that injury, language barriers and timing of the inspection were to blame for their poor food hygiene rating of zero, which was brought on in part by mould found on chopping boards.

He said that when the inspectors came, they had just completed an unexpectedly busy evening, hence why the kitchen was messy.

"Because of this I took on a manager to handle things. And I was still working but taking things a little easy and only being there during the busy period. On the day the hygiene inspectors arrived, it was around 9pm Thursday night in the last week of January and not a single booking in the diary. If you are from Blackpool, you will know that January and February are the quietest times of the year in Blackpool.

Mohammed added that there was a language barrier between the council inspectors and his staff, meaning they could not answer the inspector's questions. He added: "When the inspectors asked them any questions, they could not answer, because they did not speak much English.
