Regatta says road safety has been disregarded
The huge £250m wellness and water resort Therme Manchester has been given the green light despite threats from a major retailer that it would block users’ access to the main site from a car park.
They are worried about proposed connections over Mercury Way, the coach drop-off/pick-up facility, the multi-storey car park and logistics hub, which he said would have ‘a detrimental impact on Regatta’s access and operations’. He added: “The proposed development cannot be delivered without the use of land owned by Regatta, which has no intention of providing access over their land. If planning permission is granted, the scheme as proposed is undeliverable, a matter which has still not been addressed since 2020 when the previous permission was granted.”
"Regatta’s threat that they will not provide access to Therme is bad form and they’ve lost me, to be honest.” At the meeting developers showed an updated scheme to one previously submitted in 2020 and features a pavilion-style concept ‘immersed and enveloped in the natural landscape’.
