Air New Zealand has shared new details about its innovative Skynest concept with Sky News Australia, including the routes customers can expect to find them on and how much they are tipped to cost.
The world-first concept allows economy passengers to shell out more money to sleep in lie-flat bunk beds for a four-hour block on ultra-long haul flights.
"We'll be putting the Skynest product on our ultra-long haul flights, so it will be on our flights into New York direct from Auckland," she said on Thursday. "We're really looking forward to bringing the first Skynest offering onboard our New York flights from September 2024." There will be six pods - three stacked on each side - measuring about 200cm that customers can book, with bedding offered along with USB ports, a mesh curtain and lighting controls.
