As many as 100 Tory MPs could vote against the plans, forcing the Prime Minister to rely on the support of Labour and other parties A bill to outlaw the sale of tobacco to people turning 15 this year and anyone younger will be introduced to Parliament today.
The measures have widespread support from ministers, public health leaders, medical experts and charities. The plans will not criminalise smoking for those currently aged 14 and under, but ban the sale of tobacco. “If passed this will be a major public health measure which reduce illness, disability, and premature deaths for children today and future generations.”
