The Queensland Human Rights Commission interviewed more than 2,800 former and current QPS staff for the review.
Longstanding discriminatory practices within the Queensland Police Service have contributed to officers exiting the service, an independent review has found.“This is not about dropping standards… physicality will remain important but we also need other skills," he says.A 16-month review of QPS by the Queensland Human Rights Commission found systemic discrimination against women and First Nations people "continues to be driven by outdated processes and attitudes".
One QPS member said they believed the community would be "absolutely mortified" if they knew "some of the stuff that goes on".One officer compared the relationship with the QPS as "like a domestic violence relationship". "The person who reports it ends up being the one who is targeted. I don't have the strength for that right now," one review participant said.
"But I was told during one of the interview processes that 'nobody wants to hire you because you're a good person'." "Police from diverse backgrounds bring unique skills and experiences to the job that QPS should value and recognise," he said.
