Wild Discovery at Ribby Hall Village, in Wrea Green have their annual conservation evening planned for Saturday, 20th August 2022.
The public is invited to visit the zoo in the evening and learn about its conservation programmes through interactive talks and demonstrations.Read more:Wild Discovery is a small zoo that opened in 2016 and their aim is to give people the opportunity to learn about the amazing animal kingdom through interactive and educational activities.
“The species we hold and breed at Wild Discovery are extinct in the wild, therefore our facility breeding also known as ex-situ conservation breeding is vitally important to the survival of this species. Over forty years ago the entirety of the Partula wild population was threatened by an invasive species, the Rosey wolf snail. This snail is a carnivorous species and prayed upon the Partula and eventually drove them to wild extinction.
The Islands are now almost free of the Rosey wolf snail and so the mission to release these small snails is to begin.Wild Discovery has now paired up our Female Emperor Tamarin, these are part of an EEP breeding programme which is a global breeding programme to ensure we have preservation of this species in captivity.
