Richardson ISD is considering more flexibility in certification requirements to help address teacher shortages., the district would continue to seek traditionally certified candidates for all teaching positions., documents say, but if traditionally certified teachers are not available, a limited exemption would be available for candidates with expertise in fields such as career and technology education, STEM, dual credit, and world language courses.
For these roles, the district would be allowed to recruit candidates with industry experience, expert knowledge, or the language proficiency needed to teach those classes. The district would also develop minimum qualifications for those positions, along with requirements for professional development in the areas of student management, instructional strategies, curriculum, and parent engagement.
The plan will be discussed as part of a virtual Richardson ISD District Planning Committee meeting on Thursday at 3 p.m.The change would be fall under Richardson ISD’s District of Innovation plan, which allows school districts to access many of the flexibilities available to Texas open-enrollment charter schools..That change would allow the district to address customer service issues with its depository bank. Some of the issues directly impact the district’s employees and operational efficiency.
The original DOI Committee began its work in 2016 and examined matters concerning students, staff and operations. Richardson ISD’s school board approved the DOI plan in January 2017 and a subsequent amendment in 2019.
