The town of Clare, in South Australia’s Clare Valley, was named by early settler, Edward “Paddy” Gleeson, who arrived in the colony in 1838, and had grown up in County Clare. Other Irish settlers brought with them their family names and place names and language, most prominently on display in one of the region’s top vineyards., has one of this country’s most thoroughly Irish-sounding winery names – was first planted in the early 1970s by Spencer and Margaret George .
