Australia's most prominent right-wing extremist is vying for election to NSW Parliament | carriefellner
Dr Saleam has complained of receiving death threats since Mr Syke's arrest. He declined to respond to thequestions but told local media that "you should prefer honesty and a voice that cannot be silenced rather than the chatter of the current, corrupt house of fossils".
He described it as a "propaganda line of the multiculti [sic] industry that all was well in Young with the Muslim community", but did not express support for the alleged Christchurch gunman. Dr Saleam's views were roundly condemned by other candidates, including sitting Nationals member Steph Cooke. Ms Cooke replaced outgoing Nationals MP Katrina Hodgkinson in a byelection in 2017.
"I don't share any common views with Dr Saleam," Ms Cooke said. "Young is the most multicultural community in the region but in any community, it's unacceptable."Country Labor candidate Mark Douglass said he didn't "hold" to Dr Saleam's views and didn't believe many locals did either.
