So it was true to form, as she emerged for her long-anticipated comeback at the Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday night – her first performance in seven years – that Rihanna made huge waves without really doing much at all. Despite the sheer scale of the spectacle, a sense of supreme nonchalance reigned. The aesthetics were, by Super Bowl standards, minimal: dancers in white boiler suits, no over-the-top stage effects beyond the aforementioned suspended platforms .
