WA Police say there has been a"definite and distinct" drop in crime amid the COVID-19 emergency, with statistics down as much as 40 per cent in some parts of the state.Metropolitan areas have also seen a drop of about 15-20 per centDespite police resources being stretched by manning checkpoints at the state's regional borders and performing checks on people in quarantine or isolation, Deputy Commissioner Gary Dreibergs said a substantial drop in crime had been recorded across WA.
In regional WA, Deputy Commissioner Dreibergs said the decline was between 30 and 40 per cent on normal figures, with a 15 to 30 per cent fall in the metropolitan area for various offenses. "We have seen a drop in burglaries, stealing from motor vehicles, property damage, [stealing], they have all dropped," he told ABC Perth.
