BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —Even on the heels of an open week in the schedule, UTSA coach Jeff Traylor entered Saturday’s game against UAB continuing to shuffle the depth chart, needing to plug holes due to injury.
All together, the contributions from across the roster were enough to help UTSA outlast UAB 44-38 in two overtimes on Saturday at Protective Field. Traylor did not provide an update on Clark’s injury after the game but said he would travel back to San Antonio with the team. Clark took to Twitter to thank UTSA’s fans for their support and posted “I promise,” along with an image reading ‘I’ll be back.
In the first half alone, Mayfield recorded a strip sack, tracked down an interception and dove to break up a slant pattern that otherwise could have gone for a UAB touchdown late in the second quarter. UTSA fumbled three times in the opening half and quarterback Frank Harris struggled with the ball seemingly slipping out of his hands, leading to a handful of errant passes.
“That’s kind of what people say about Frank, and he just, it didn’t bother him at all tonight,” Traylor said. “He played as good as he has all year. We were concerned. Wind, rain, but he played.”Entering Saturday with just one catch to this point of his redshirt senior season, Ogle-Kellogg delivered a 2-yard touchdown in overtime, finding open space on a crossing route through the back of the end zone.
