UTSA’s Joshua Cephus ‘suspected of DWI’ in car accident
UTSA wide receiver Joshua Cephus fumbles the ball during a game against Texas Southern at the Alamodome.A week before being held out of UTSA’s Cure Bowl game for undisclosed reasons, receiver Joshua Cephus rolled his vehicle over in an accident near campus and is “suspected of DWI,” according to a police report.
In another section of the report, the officer entered a numerical code indicating that alcohol was believed to be a “contributing factor” in the accident. “We are aware of an incident involving Joshua Cephus. We continue to gather more information,” an athletics department spokesperson said in a statement. “In the meantime, per our department policy, he has been suspended from all team activities.”
According to the report, Cephus was driving a silver 2009 Nissan Maxima with one passenger — former UTSA walk-on Emmanuel Odetola, who was not injured. Three days later, UTSA’s football team departed for Orlando, Fla., to prepare for the Cure Bowl. Cephus had appeared in every game this season for the Roadrunners, making 87 catches for 985 yards and six touchdowns.
