Robert Duvall has reflected on his career in the 50 years since starring as Tom Hagen in TheGodfather, a role for which he received an Oscar nomination. 🙌 '[It was] Great, great, great working with Coppola; terrific.”

The Godfather actor Robert Duvall reflects on his career after making the groundbreaking film. It's been 50 years since The Godfather first hit theatres, and it has since been widely considered one of the greatest films ever made.

Due to the film's massive success, The Godfather became a defining moment in the careers of nearly everyone who was a part of it. Despite the fact that it features actors who have had incredibly successful careers over the last several decades, their roles in The Godfather remain some of the most iconic characters of the cast's careers.

“Well, there’s always repercussions in a legitimate way; a good way. Everybody began to work after that. I had a career before somewhat, but after that, a little bit latee–I’m more of a late bloomer–so eight or ten years after The Godfather is going to be good for me to do my own projects, and good [for my] career ... I’m very happy. And I’ve done a lot of things that weren’t so great, but I had to pay the rent. You know, I had to pay the rent.

In what is perhaps the most interesting tidbit from the interview, Duvall points out that it still took him nearly 10 years after the release of The Godfather to be able to work on his own projects, and do what he wanted to do, which included directing.

Looking back on The Godfather 50 years later certainly puts the film's accomplishments into perspective. In the last five decades, there has hardly been a film that has been more influential. The Godfather changed the genre of the"gangster movie" forever, and many projects since have tried to capture lightning in a bottle the way Coppola's film did. Duvall himself stated that he has only felt that he has been part of something as special as The Godfather twice in his career .
