During an appearance on The Tonight Show, Robert Irwin shared a humorous story about accidentally spilling orange juice twice while dining with King Charles and promoted his role as host for Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro.
He’s the multi-talented animal conservationist who has become a global superstar, but national treasure Robert Irwin has revealed he’s actually a grade A klutz like most of us.
Speaking backstage with the host of The Tonight Show Jimmy Fallon, Robert was probed to reveal things about himself the public would not have been aware of. As a child born into a high-profile family, the son of the late Steve Irwin recalled an embarrassing blunder he made while dining with royalty in his younger years.
“I’ve never really told this one, this is bad... ” he began.
“So I was at lunch with the King of England, with King Charles right, and I’m sitting there, and I was a kid, and sort of still am kid, but I got an orange juice and I managed to spill it across the table, right at him! Luckily, it didn’t hit him.
“Then the best bit is, they bring me another pitcher of orange juice full to the brim five minutes later... I did it again. ” Robert, 22, is the younger brother of Bindi, 27, and son of Terri, 61. Joking with Fallon over his reputation for being clumsy among loved ones, the charismatic star said he wasn’t quite able to heed the very relevant advice of his mother.
“My mum, because I’m notorious for spilling stuff, she would always say to me growing up, ‘Robert, if you were dining with royalty, you wouldn’t spill, so just treat it like you’re always dining with royalty’,” he continued. “And then you spill it in front of royalty,” Fallon added. “In front of King Charles,” Robert confirmed.
The bubbly figure later appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show, where he busted a move while spruiking his appearance on forthcoming series Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro. As the winner of season 34, Robert is set to host the spin-off competition which will see emerging dancers compete for a professional dancer spot on the show’s flagship series. Bindi herself won the US show’s 21st instalment in 2015, aged just 17.
