Rochester, N.Y. — Several residents are displaced after a third-alarm fire ripped through a Rochester apartment building Sunday night.Officials say some people were in units that were not authorized to be occupied when another resident heard a smoke detector alarm and called 911. “The biggest challenge is the design of the building. As you can see, this isn't a normal building. It has a number of separations," said Chief Stefano Napolitano, Rochester Fire Department. “So, that made it a little more challenging right now, and checking all the void spaces because of the age of the building and construction of the building.”
The Red Cross and Person in Crisis Team are helping the impacted residents as crews investigate how the fire started.
