The Rockets emerged victorious from a matchup between the two worst teams in the NBA.

Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun, left, dunks in front of Detroit Pistons forward Marvin Bagley III, right, during the first half of an NBA basketball game Friday, March 31, 2023, in Houston. After 37 ties or lead changes, and just three points separating the Rockets and Pistons, with one minute remaining, it would seem safe to say that the teams at the bottom of the NBA standings were evenly matched.

But Green missed his free throw, and when K.J. Martin tried to finish a fast break a minute later after a Jabari Smith Jr. blocked shot, Martin made one of two free throws, keeping the Pistons within five. Ivey missed a 3-pointer, before the Rockets again missed another free throw. But by then, with 23.6 seconds left, it was enough for Alperen Sengun to make one of two free throw attempts.

Ivey got his turn late in the third quarter, when he took off on the baseline and slipped in his drive before Boban Marjanovic, in position at the rim, could react.
