The Rockets had long since known there would be no playoffs, or even a pursuit of play-in games for them. It became official last week when they lost in overtime in Indiana.It is fun playing teams playing for something. It might say something about how tight the NBA playoff chase has become in the play-in era, but the Rockets are in the midst of a run of 13 consecutive games against teams fighting for playoff positioning or just to get in.
These are the Rockets’ version of playoffs, and when they backed up Monday’s win against the Celtics with a sometimes solid, sometimes harrowingon Wednesday, the Rockets could point to the benefits of experiences learning to close out wins against teams with something to lose. The Rockets were at their best and worst in those closing minutes, providing ample lessons in a season about learning how to win. Also, it was fun.
