An alleged victim of disgraced entertainer Rolf Harris has claimed he assaulted her ‘three times in the space of 35 minutes and in plain sight’ when she met him as a teenager.
In 1978 Karen Gardner was 16 when she went along to the filming of the show Star Games in Cambridge, at which Harris was appearing.Recalling their interactions in the first episode of the two-part series, she said that ‘for the first couple of hours, he was “lovely”.She said she didn’t see ‘any signs of what was to come, at all’.‘In the space of about 35 minutes he assaulted me three times in plain sight, and it was…horrible,’ she said.
‘My period was due, and my breasts were very tender, and I had no doubt what he’d done was deliberate.’ While she had heard rumours about his behaviour Jacoby said: ‘I never for one moment imagined I would be on the receiving end of that behaviour.’has spoken out about the ‘traumatic and prolonged sexual abuse’ she was subjected to.
Detailing some of the shocking instances of abuse, he said that the woman was told by Harris that because he was powerful and rich, she should ‘tread carefully’.‘Trauma thrives in darkness and Rolf Harris made sure she was shrouded in it.’Ahead of the release of the documentary series, the team behind the project spoke about what they wanted to achieve by shining a light on Harris’ rise and fall.
