After being snubbed by the Wallabies, Mark Nawaqanitawase could go to the Olympics - or make his move to the NRL five months early.
The Roosters are exploring the possibility of bringing rugby recruit Mark Nawaqanitawase to the NRL club five months early after he was overlooked for the Wallabies by new coach Joe Schmidt.
Following the Wallabies’ snub, this masthead has learned of discussions between the Roosters and Nawaqanitawase’s camp about the prospect of the code-hopper getting a release from Rugby Australia and starting at the NRL club ahead of his scheduled arrival at the end of the year. Nawaqanitawase would be in line for a financial loss if he was to get a release, with the Roosters restricted on what they can offer. They would also likely be governed by the market value the NRL salary cap auditor places on him.The winger has spoken with Australian sevens coach John Manenti about making a late selection bid for the 12-man squad to play in Paris.
