The Council voted Wednesday to make her the lone finalist to temporarily sit at the dais following former Councilwoman Ana Sandoval’s departureCastro was the lone finalist selected Wednesday for a final interview, which the council will conduct before taking a final vote to appoint her. after Castro, 75, announced that she planned to apply for the position. However, Castro said Sandoval had not previously tapped her to fill the role.Castro has lived in District 7 for 36 years. She was born and raised in San Antonio. Of the four candidates who applied to fill the seat, she was one of the people who lived in the area the longest.In 1971, Castro ran for City Council. At the time, it was under an at-large election system.
And she has remained active in the community. She is a board member for the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute and Texas Organizing Project, a liberal community-activist group.
