Fredriksson began her musical career in Sweden in the 1980s before pairing up with her to-be lifelong friend and band member Per Gessle, creating Roxette in 1986. Fredriksson was first diagnosed with a severe brain tumour in 2002 and underwent an aggressive period of treatment that saw her fight back onto the stage by 2009.
