General Secretary at NSW Nurses and Midwives Association Brett Holmes says the government setting up a Royal Commission “really didn’t fix the problems in aged care'.

General Secretary at NSW Nurses and Midwives Association Brett Holmes says the government setting up a Royal Commission “really didn’t fix the problems in aged care”.

It comes after thousands of NSW nurses and midwives gathered outside state parliament yesterday expressing a demand for pay rise and better nurse-to-patient ratios. Mr Holmes said the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety provided recommendations that wages be adjusted. “We need to make sure that all of the aged care workers are properly paid,” he told Sky News Australia.

“The case is front of the Fair Work Commission. And the federal government has simply said it’s a hands-off approach.”
