Spanish football’s governing body has requested estranged president Luis Rubiales hand in his resignation immediately while his mother has gone on a hunger strike labelling the saga an"inhumane and bloody hunt".
In response to Mr Rubiales' slow descent from the top of Spanish football his mother, Angeles Bejar, has taken a stance against what she called the “inhumane and bloody hunt” against her son. The RFEF held an urgent meeting which lasted about six hours on Monday discussing its next actions regarding Mr Rubiales and decided he should not remain president.
In the statement released after the meeting the RFEF congratulated the women’s national team on their triumph at the World Cup and urged a “a wholesale, immediate and organic restructuring process of strategic positions” of the organisation to introduce a new head. Despite the RFEF's commitment to women's football the statement made no mention of embattled women’s national team coach Jorge Vilda.
