The Australian’s Judith Sloan said the Australia 2020 summit, which was headed up by Kevin Rudd when he was prime minister in 2008, was a talk-fest full of "what we would call 'rent seekers’”.

The 2020 Summit invited delegates to discuss ideas and proposals of issues that could affect the future of the nation. Ms Sloan said those who were present at the summit attempted to “push their pet projects” which were to be “funded by the taxpayer”. She said it's telling that few of the ideas were subsequently adopted by the private sector.
