Those comments brought an explosive rebuke from the Republican presidential nominee in an interview with the British conservative commentator for GB News - which will air on Sky News Australia on Wednesday night - with Trump describing the former Australian prime minister as"not the brightest bulb." Reacting to the comments on Wednesday, Mr Littleproud argued the war of words between both men was now"a problem" for the Albanese government and could potentially complicate sensitive talks regarding the AUKUS deal.
"It shows that he was a poor choice to start with and now if we have a Trump Administration that we're going to have a very difficult time in negotiating with the new administration, particularly with things as important as AUKUS. Relations between the two nations at that time remained relatively stable despite the former president's confrontational and isolationist tendencies, with some analysts suggesting there was no reason for that to change despite the exchange of barbs.
