BREAKING Rugby Australia says it will terminate Israel Folau’s contract over his anti-gay social media posts
Rugby Australia and NSW Rugby Union will terminate star player Israel Folau's contract, following his"disrespectful" social media posts about homosexuals.
"Whilst Israel is entitled to his religious beliefs, the way in which he has expressed these beliefs is inconsistent with the values of the sport. We want to make it clear that he does not speak for the game with his recent social media posts," the joint statement said. After the initial post on Wednesday Folau doubled down, tweeting"the devil has blindsided so many people in this world, REPENT and turn away from your evil ways".
"It does not represent the values of the sport and is disrespectful to members of the Rugby community," the statement read.Folau was under contract until 2022, has won 73 caps and is a key part of Michael Cheika's plans for the tournament in Japan.
