A country town is creating a name for itself among Australian television and movie makers, becoming the backdrop of three major productions over the past 12 months.

Two movies, which are soon to be released, have been filmed in the historic Western Australian town of York.A town about 100 kilometres east of Perth is making a name for itself among Australian television and movie makers after featuring in three major productions over the past 12 months.

Statistics provided to the Shire of York from Screenwest after the filming of the two projects estimated a direct cash injection into the town worth $1.1 million.Runt author Craig Silvey said York was selected as the ideal filming location due to the town's distinctive character."And the community itself — with its idiosyncrasies and quirkiness — befits the tone of the people of Upson Downs.

"The community were able to receive direct economic development and spend during a time when we are traditionally very quiet within the tourism space," she said.) "Many crew members suffered hayfever while they were living in town for filming, leaving the shelves of our chemist bare. "Ninety-four locals were used as extras in the movie Runt which not only gives aspiring actors and artists from the region an opportunity to add to their resume, but it will also serve as a story for generations to come," he said.
