A number of acts and performers have pulled out of Manchester Pride in the last few months
Another performer has withdrawn from Manchester Pride 2024. RuPaul's Drag Race 2023 UK winner Ginger Johnson is the latest act to announce they will no longer be performing at the annual LGBTQ+ celebration.
Just over two weeks ago, performer Bimini, who appeared on season two of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, announced they were also pulling out of the event. The artist had also been scheduled to headline the Trans Filth and Joy takeover on the first day of the festival. In a post, Ginger Johnson wrote: "I have made the decision to withdraw from Manchester Pride. In this withdrawal, I stand with the No Pride in Genocide movement internationally and locally in Manchester.
“I stand with the radical values of Pride and Queer activism - not only in calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, but to put an end to complicity in pinkwashing tactics,” Ginger Johnson added. “As Marsha P. Johnson said, ‘no Pride for some of us without Liberation for all of us.’ "Manchester Pride and the LGBTQ+ community have a long, proud history of protest. We fully recognise, respect and support any artist’s decision to perform or not perform at the Manchester Pride Festival and we continue to stand by, facilitate and champion our communities right to protest.
