The billionaire’s ‘retirement’ from his controversial media empire might not protect him from litigants such as his fellow News Corp and Fox shareholders.
from running both News Corp and Fox last month, there was plenty of ambiguity in his message to staff about his future with the companies.
Fox News pushed claims that the election was stolen, with voting machines from Smartmatic and Dominion playing a central role, despite knowing this was false. Samira Saba, head of communications for Smartmatic, said the voting machines maker is in the process of conducting document discovery and depositions for its upcoming case. The company would not be drawn on who it might call up if the matter reached court.
Erin Murphy, an attorney representing both Fox Corporation and Fox News, argued that, in order for Fox Corporation to remain a defendant in the case, Smartmatic would have to prove that the Murdochs were specifically talking about Smartmatic when they communicated with top Fox officials about the direction of news coverage.Of course, the Murdochs don’t need to look outside their media empire to find enemies.
