Three people have died after a blast tore through a major pipeline near the Russian–Ukrainian border.

Local officials on Telegram and the TASS news agency said the flow of gas through the pipeline has been cut off as of 1:50pm local time.The Chuvashia regional Emergencies Ministry said the pipeline blew up during planned upkeep work new the village of Kalinino.The Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhhorod pipeline, one of Russia’s main natural gas export pipelines, is by Ukraine A loud noise reportedly ripped through the area moments before the blast, raising fears of a plane crash, witnesses claimed.

Local regional chief Oleg Nikolaev said the intense heat has made it ‘impossible to approach the scene immediately’.
