Vladimir Putin again raises nuclear threat during Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, as Olaf Scholz hosts G7 leaders to discuss energy and food crisis

This year, Scholz invited as partner countries Senegal, the current chair of the African Union, Argentina, which heads the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, Indonesia and India, the present and next hosts of the G20 group of large industrial nations, and South Africa. Putin also offered to upgrade Belarus’ warplanes to make them capable of carrying nuclear weapons, amid soaring tensions with the west over Ukraine.
The Iskander-M, a mobile guided missile system codenamed “SS-26 Stone” by Nato, replaced the Soviet Scud missile. Its two guided missiles have a range of up to 500km and can carry conventional or nuclear warheads.
