Russian strikes hit a series of Ukrainian regions, including the Black Sea port of Odesa and Kharkiv, knocking out power to several areas, according to regional officials.
abc.net.au/news/russia-strikes-many-ukrainian-regions-power-cut/102074434Russian missile strikes hit a series of Ukrainian regions early on Thursday, including Odesa and Kharkiv, knocking out power to several areas, regional officials say.Residential areas were also hit, but no casualties have been reportedThe attacks struck a wide arc of targets, including cities stretching from Zhytomyr, Vynnytsia and Rivne in the west to Dnipro and Poltava in central Ukraine.
The governor of Ukraine's Odesa region, Maksym Marchenko, said on Telegram that a mass missile attack had hit an energy facility in the Black Sea port city, triggering power cuts. "As a result of a mass missile strike, an energy infrastructure site was hit in the region as well as residences," Mr Marchenko said on Telegram."Fortunately, there are no casualties. Electricity restrictions are in effect."Oleh Synehubov, governor of Ukraine's second largest city, Kharkiv, said the city and region had been hit by 15 strikes, with targets including infrastructure."Infrastructure was again among the targets.
Another strike was reported in the central city of Dnipro and in the western towns of Lutsk and Rivne, far from the front lines in the year-old war.Late on Wednesday, Ukraine's military said it had managed to push back intense Russian attacks on the city of Bakhmut despite a Russian claim of control over its eastern half.
As one of the bloodiest battles of the year-long war ground on in the small city's ruins, Ukrainian defenders — who last week appeared to be preparing for a tactical retreat — remained defiant.

Trump has a ‘strong sense’ of Americans’ anxiety over Ukraine-Russia conflictFormer US President Donald Trump has a “very strong and clear sense' of many Americans’ anxiety over the Ukrainian war with Russia and the threat of nuclear warfare, says Freshwater Strategy Director Leo Shanahan. His comments follow Mr Trumps’ bold speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in which he labelled himself the “anti-World War III” candidate. “This is a real anxiety for most Americans that if a nuclear bomb goes off in Ukraine that could end in a third world war,” Mr Shanahan told Sky News Australia. “So there’s a real risk there and it’s a fear he’s articulating quite clearly early on.”
