Reviewing the film of Rutgers' season-opening win over Boston College, including its wacky quarterback rotation, defensive front dominance and new-look offensive line.

Pierce was the only one with experience at his position, starting 12 games at right tackle last season. Brown played center for the first time after starting six games at left guard, while the rest played their first significant action as Scarlet Knights. Between multiple penalties and miscommunication on the pair of first-half sacks they surrendered, the lack of familiarity showed early on.

Their defensive front seven’s dominance was evident early and often in the run game. The Eagles got nothing going on the ground, running for 64 yards on 22 carries. Most of that came on a 20-yard run from Patrick Garwo and a 13-yard run from Jurkovek in the first quarter; remove those chunk plays and Boston College ball-carriers ran for 29 yards on 21 carries, a putrid 1.38 yards per carry.

And they needed every last one, because whenever the front wasn’t applying pressure, Jurkovec was picking apart the Scarlet Knights secondary, completing 23 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Zay Flowers and tight end George Takas kept finding pockets of space and exploiting them for big gains, making a combined nine receptions of at least 10 yards.A little under 10 months since he suffered a major knee injury, Cruickshank was back on the field making an impact for Rutgers.

- Sophomore defensive end Jordan Thompson made an impressive play late in the first quarter, playing good coverage on Tackas on a wheel route before breaking up the pass attempt. He is one of the young members of the defensive line rotation that- Robert Longerbeam, who opened the game with his first career sack and picked off Jurkovec at a crucial point in the fourth quarter, gave up just nine yards on two catches while being targeted five times, per ProFootballFocus.
