Robbie Coltrane, best known for his role as Hagrid in Harry Potter, has died aged 72
The actor was known for beloved roles such as Hagrid in the Harry Potter series and Dr Edward "Fitz" Fitzgerald in the crime drama Cracker. He was also in the popular 1980s Scottish TV series Tutti Frutti.
In a statement, his agent Belinda Wright said: "Robbie was a unique talent, sharing the Guinness Book of Records’ Award for winning three consecutive Best Actor BAFTAs for his portrayal of Fitz in Granada TV’s series Cracker in 1994, 1995 and 1996 with Sir Michael Gambon.
“He is survived by his sister Annie Rae, his children Spencer and Alice and their mother Rhona Gemmell. They would like to thank the medical staff at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert for their care and diplomacy." Coltrane was born on March 30, 1950 in Rutherglen. He studied at Glasgow School of Art and Moray House College of Education in Edinburgh before moving into acting in his early twenties.
