But it seems as though McElheeny, 46, didn’t find it easy adjusting to royal protocol, admitting, “I think I am going have a hard time with this.”The pals, who co-own Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC, prepared for a visit from King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, by taking part in a “monarchy boot camp.”Elsewhere, Humphrey Ker, Wrexham’s executive director, mentioned the importance of impressing the monarchy due to their links to the UK government.
“We are trying to get $25 million worth of Kop [stadium seating] funding from the UK government. Two years of work has gone into lining up all the pieces of the puzzle to try and get this funding and that will give us an extra 5,500 seats,” he says. Reynolds and McElhenney gave the royals a tour of the Racecourse Ground — the world’s oldest international soccer stadium.“It will also give us a stadium that is deemed to be of international standards so we can bring Welsh football back to the Racecourse. It’s the biggest and most expensive piece of the endeavor.
“We’ll do anything to uplift and elevate this community and this club and having the King pay a visit is certainly one way to do it, that’s for sure,” Reynolds said in December.
