It's the second biggest club fixture in Scottish football and the one that means the most to the people of our capital city.
Two teams on a high, one with a new manager and the other on a good run of form. It’s all there. Hearts v Hibs at Tynecastle and if you aren’t lucky enough to get a ticket at least it’s on the telly, eh? Except it isn’t. And that is bonkers. This is one of Scottish football’s showpiece matches – a chance for the SPFL to show the world the vibrancy and passion of our game that is one of main unique selling points.
Funnily enough, I still remember young Ross Caldwell’s last-minute winner at Tynecastle for Hibs back in May 2013 more clearly than some of ours but that’s the life of a footballer. You recall the ones that hurt you more than the ones you win. I always remember Gary Locke and Jim Jefferies – and you will never meet two bigger Hearts men – telling us in the dressing room after yet another victory: ‘Enjoy tonight, then on Monday we come back in here and get ready for the next game’.
Why? Well, I was hyper at training on the Monday and Tuesday then spent all of my day off on the Wednesday with nothing to do but think about the game. Then on the Thursday and Friday in training, you’d be going full pelt to make sure you were in the team.
