Elena Rybakina, the sixth seed, dominated her match against young Australian wildcard, Olivia Jones, winning in straight sets. The Kazakh powerhouse showcased her exceptional skills, winning almost twice as many points as Jones and firing 11 aces. Despite Jones's promising start, Rybakina's experience and power proved too much to handle. Meanwhile, fellow Australian player Kim Birrell suffered a straight-sets loss to Eva Lys.
Elena Rybakina , the sixth seed, dominated her match on Margaret Court Arena, securing a decisive victory with a score of 6-1, 6-1 in just 53 minutes. The 16-year-old wildcard, playing with a wildcard entry, held serve early in both sets, but couldn't keep pace with the powerful Kazakh opponent. Rybakina won nearly twice as many points as Jones and delivered 11 aces throughout the match.
Four of these aces came consecutively during a barrage in the final game of the first set, where Jones had briefly led 0-40 and was hoping to reverse the momentum that had largely favored Rybakina. When on-court interviewer Alicia Molik later suggested that the sequence might have been difficult for a 16-year-old, Rybakina chuckled and dismissed the notion. 'I lost my concentration and focus, so I was pretty quick to be 0-40, and then I knew that I needed to step up and serve,' she explained. Jones had achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Australian since Jelena Dokic in 1998 to hold the world's top junior ranking. She had also stunned the world No 37, Xinyu Wang, in Adelaide leading up to the tournament. However, the Queenslander was clearly outmatched against Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon champion and 2023 Australian Open finalist. The world No 7 expressed confidence in Jones's future, emphasizing the need for patience and hard work. Following nine Australian victories on Monday, the early results on Tuesday proved disappointing for local fans. Kim Birrell, Australia's top-ranked women's player, suffered a straight-sets defeat to lucky loser Eva Lys. The German player received the news of her participation only on Tuesday morning after No 13 seed Anna Kalinskaya withdrew due to an injury. Lys had previously been eliminated from qualifying by Australian first-round winner Destanee Aiava, but she ended the hopes of another Australian player, Birrell, with a comprehensive 6-2, 6-2 victory. The evening session on Tuesday at Melbourne Park features top players like No 8 seed Alex de Minaur and 25th seed Alexei Popyrin, alongside Olivia Gadecki
