South Australia is on track to open its borders from next week, despite low vaccination rates in several communities, the state's health chief says.

She conceded that the state may not meet its 80 per cent vaccination rate target by November 23, due to the number of people getting the jab dwindling, but believed it would not be far off that date.

He said authorities were aware the state's reopening plan was "complex" to understand, and they hoped it would become clearer as it was implemented. "We're stepping our way through the introduction of COVID-19 into our community — we don't know how it's going to go."If you have been exposed to COVID-19 and you are a close contact, you will have to quarantine … if you're vaccinated, that's seven days. If you're not vaccinated, that's 14 days."
