The Shire of Halls Creek is accused of breaching fair processes during a probe into alleged misconduct by its former chief executive, as cracks emerge in its relationship with an Indigenous group charged with helping to reduce youth crime in the region.
Sacked Shire of Halls Creek chief executive Phill Cassell says the council breached fair processes by telling the ABC that a claim against him has been substantiated.
It comes as details emerge of a breakdown in the council's relationship with a key Indigenous partner and a Commonwealth funding body. Mr Cassell told the ABC the shire's actions were a "breach of the investigatory process" and "contradicts the processes of legal entitlements". The ABC put Mr Cassell's concerns to the shire president, who said the council had an obligation to keep the public informed.Interviews with multiple community leaders and former staff show prior to his departure, Mr Cassell's working relationship with senior figures at the shire had deteriorated.
