The director of the Secret Service has made a stunning admission about why agents were not positioned on top of the building used by the shooter who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump, saying the slope of the roof posed a 'safety' threat.

Secret Service director says agents not placed on 'sloped roof' gunman used to fire shots at Trump rally due to 'safety factor'

Secret Service director Kimberley Crooks has blamed safety protocol for not positioning agents on the"sloped roof" used by the shooter who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump. Picture: AP Photo/Morry Gash Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle has since pointed to the angle of the roof as a reason why agents were not set up on top of the building. "And so, there's a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn't want to put somebody up on a sloped roof. The gunman shot at the Republican presidential candidate from the rooftop of a nearby building believed to be about 120m away from the stage at the rally. Ms Cheatle said a"number of factors" were considered by the Secret Service when securing the site at the rally, noting there were multiple buildings in the"outer perimeter".
