SafeWork NSW said in a statement on Monday inspectors would be conducting compliance checks on Notified Displays across the state for all of December 2024 and into January 2025 with a “zero-tolerance approach to illegal sale and use of fireworks”. Those caught selling, buying, storing, transporting or setting off fireworks without authorisation face fines of up to $27,500 and 12 months behind bars. SafeWork NSW, which is the licensing regulator for fireworks, reminded residents they required either a pyrotechnicians licence or a fireworks (single use) licence (FSUL) to purchase, use, store, manufacture, supply and transport fireworks. Picture: Getty Images (stock) “SafeWork NSW is emphasising the importance of managing nearby risks posed by environmental conditions such as bushfire dangers as well as providing easy access to emergency services should they be needed,” the statement said. “Operators must also establish exclusion zones at every display in accordance with the Operational Conditions for Pyrotechnicians and Fireworks single use licenses. “All notified displays by licence holders must notify authorities ahead of a fireworks display, such as the NSW Police Force, Fire and Rescue NSW, the NSW Rural Fire Service and the local Council.” SafeWork NSW said it would work closely with NSW Police to ensure residents remained safe over the festive perio
