Magpies fans had been racially abusing Winmar and teammate Gilbert McAdam and his defiant gesture is an iconic moment in Australian sport.Winmar, 56, played 230 games for St Kilda between 1987-98 and another 21 for the Western Bulldogs in 1999. He was a two-time All-Australian and also won the Saints’ best and fairest twice, as well as being named on a wing in the St Kilda team of the century.
