The County Council voted unanimously Tuesday to ban the use of the popular social media app on county-owned units, joining the chorus of governments shunning the platform in recent months. The video app has come under fire due to security concerns because its owner, ByteDance, is headquartered in China, where the government may force companies in the country to fork over user data.
The district attorney’s office will also be allowed to use the app on the county’s network in investigations.
