Members of the Salvation Army were shocked to find three gold coins valued at $5950 while collecting money for those in need this Christmas. 9News
The coins, which have been identified as Kruegerrand South African coins, were found on November 27 outside the Price Chopper in Bristol, Connecticut.
"We were so surprised and amazed when we found the coins," Captain Sharenna Echavarria, Corps Officer at The Salvation Army said. Salvation Army officers found three coins valued at over $5000 when collecting money for the homeless.Major Gregory Hartshorn, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army said this is the first time in his 33-year career, he's seen a gold coin placed in a kettle.
"You usually hear about it happening somewhere out in the Midwest. Here we had not one, but three were found in our backyard in Bristol. We are so humbly grateful," Maj. Hartshorn said. The bell ringing for the Salvation Army starts each November and runs through Christmas Eve, and more than 30 million Americans are served by the organisation each year.
