Over and over again Ms Sassoon asked him questions that required yes or no answers, but he would simply say he didn’t recall.Each time he said this, Ms Sassoon instantly pulled up exhibits showing the evidence of his previous comments, with the prompt: “Does this help your memory?” The answer was always, “No.”

Ms Sassoon then asked whether he told members of the media that Alameda received special treatment compared with other customers.Mr Bankman-Fried said he didn’t remember, before Ms Sassoon pulled up an email he sent tosaying: “Alameda and its traders does not have any special access to client information, market data, or trading.
