Clayton Perry reportedly was in his backyard with a cut on his head and smelling of alcohol.
District 10 Councilman Clayton Perry speaks as City Council meets to discuss and vote on the city's new annual budget, totaling $3.4 billion, on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022. The main highlights included city property tax relief; large wage increases for city employees to stem the tide of people leaving and fill vacancies; police resources; and what to do with an extra $50 to $75 million in revenue the city takes from CPS Energy.
A police officer found Perry, 67, in the backyard of his home on Calico Creek Drive with a cut on his head and smelling of alcohol.. Citing a redacted police report, the station reported that the driver of a black Jeep Wrangler crashed head-on into a Honda Civic at the intersection of Jones Maltsberger and Redland roads just after 9 p.m. Sunday. The Civic reportedly sustained “major damage.”The driver of the Wrangler fled the scene.
In his report, the officer listed the offense as a failure to stop and give information after a crash with damages worth more than $200, KSAT reported. Under Texas law, that’s a Class B misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $2,000 and 180 days in jail. The councilman did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday morning.
Perry, a folksy back-to-basics councilman who frequently rails against city spending he deems wasteful, won election to City Council in 2017 and was returned to office in 2019. He sits on City Council committees that deal with police and fire protection policy and transportation issues. Between 2008 and 2017, Perry was cited four times for speeding, once for not having a valid registration number on his vehicle, once for not using “proper lights” at night and once for failure to appear in court, according to court records. All seven cases were dismissed.
